I made and photographed kids' dream meals. Pt. 2

“Easter Chocolate Bunny Milkshake”

This photographic series translates the outlandish food creations described by children.

My intention for this project is to create a visual survey of unbounded culinary imagination. Foods containing super-sized doses of sugar, fat, and bright colourant elicits a deeply rooted physiological magnetism. I believe that working with children, by encouraging their inventive, whimsical minds to share their most original meal or snack ideas, is the perfect way to create culinary creations that will not only intrigue and tickle the fancies of everyday adult audiences, but will poignantly reflect the zeitgeist of radical foodie culture.

In March 2020, I received a grant to begin this project which I planned to start by visiting schools, day cares and youth groups to interview children on what their dream meals would be - no limit to stomach capacity or budget. The next week, everything shut down. I scrambled to put together a worksheet that youth could do with their caregivers, hoping that they would be happy to be given 15 minutes of relief. I was overwhelmed with submissions! Here are some of the results.
