Homemade Sprinkles
Have you ever noticed how expensive sprinkles are? Yeah, no thanks.
Also, did you know these log-shaped sprinkles are called “Jimmies”? Ah!
They are shocking easy and cheap to make. Plus, you get to customize your colours, size, shape, and mixes! Here I’ve created a Valentine’s Day mix with white, pink and red. But the combinations are endless: Birthday, Christmas, Halloween, rainbow, or just your favourite colours! Now throw these JIMMIES on everything!
Homemade Sprinkles
Ingredients
- 1/3 cup icing sugar
- 1 teaspoon meringue powder
- 1 teaspoon water (plus more)
- Gel food colouring of choice
Instructions
- Combine ingredients in a bowl. Add more water until you reach a toothpaste consistency. Whisk until smooth.
- Divide into bowls if you want to use multiple colours. Add gel food colouring and stir.
- Add each other into a pastry bag with a small round tip, or into a ziploc bag with the corner snipped.
- Prepare a baking sheet covered in parchment. Pipe icing into rows on the parchment. Let sit for 1 hour.
- Crunch the icing into your hands to break them into small pieces.
- Put in a jar and store for up to 6 months.
